Could you explain some of these other options to me? It will take months burning clips to compare how each option looks on my TV. I do notice there are horizontal lines if I leave it to the defaults. The one thing i am unsure about is the audio – whether the full 5.1 surround is being encoded or just plain stereo. but so all the files just play in the catchall “movie” category instead, not a problem.

Only tiny issue is the file extensions you get (.mp4) don’t match the ones AppleTV uses inside iTunes/Front Row categories (mp4v). And converting an HDTV stream (.ts file) taken direct from the firewire output of my Comcast box via iRecord is likewise piece of cake, full HD quality maintained. i use 75% quality, which cuts file size in about half, and can’t tell the difference on my 34″ HDTV. some (many?) DVD’s are actually 720/480, not 640/480, and Streamclip offers the choice to keep the extra width, very nice. some files i rip from music performance DVD’s via MactheRipper, using Trim to get just the songs i want. You’re totally right! over the last two months i’ve tried a half dozen different convertors, and Streamclip is by far the easiest to use with the best results H264.
